Job Summary
We are seeking highly experienced and motivated Tactical Leadership Training Instructors to deliver a rigorous and immersive 10-day leadership development course for Air Force Special Warfare (AFSPECWAR) and Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) Non-Commissioned Officers and Company Grade Officers. This course blends elements from Ranger School and Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course (RSLC) and focuses on troop-leading procedures, tactical decision-making, and combat leadership under stress. Instructors will serve as subject matter experts (SMEs), coaches, and mentors throughout the course, supporting both classroom and field-based learning in austere conditions. 

Responsibilities:
Deliver and Develop Classroom Instruction on
  • Tactical leadership principles 
  • Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP) 
  • Troop leading procedures (TLPs) 
  • Mission analysis and operational planning 
  • Historical vignettes and leadership case studies 
  • Fratricide prevention, trust-building, and ethical leadership 
Facilitate Field Training Exercises (FTX) including: 
  • Dismounted patrol scenarios to simulate combat conditions 
  • Leadership evaluation under stress (sleep/food deprivation, austere environments) 
  • After-action reviews (AARs) and guided discussions 
Provide Leadership Mentorship:  
  • Coach students through evolving leadership roles and planning challenges 
  • Offer real-world insights from combat experience 
  • Foster a high-trust, team-first learning environment 
Support Course Development & Execution: 
  • Tailor instruction to align with AFMANs, CFETPs, METs, and DOD doctrine 
  • Assist with course materials, mission boards, OPORD briefings, and rehearsals 
  • Coordinate with logistical and support personnel for field operations 
  • Plan a classroom curriculum that meets school standards
  • Encourage the development of students’ critical thinking skills
  • Prepare any necessary learning materials
  • Assign homework
  • Take attendance
  • Grade assignments and provide feedback
  • Document students’ learning progress
  • Collaborate with other teachers and school personnel to create a healthy and safe learning environment
  • Report and document behavioral incidents
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of real-world combat leadership experience in U.S. Special Operations Forces (SOF) or Special Mission Units (SMUs) 
  • Experience in one or more operational theaters: Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Bosnia 
  • Graduate of a SOF Operator Training Course 
  • Previous Joint Task Force (JTF) command or leadership experience 
  • Deep familiarity with: 
    • Ranger Handbook 
    • AFTTP 3-3.JTAC 
    • AFMAN 10-3500/10-3505 Volumes 1 & 2 
  • Proven experience instructing or mentoring in tactical leadership, planning, or combat operations. 
  • Physically fit and able to operate in austere environments with minimal support. 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead small groups through dynamic learning environments. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior instructor or cadre role at RSLC, Ranger School, or similar courses. 
  • Formal instructional training (e.g., Army Basic Instructor Course, SOF-specific methods). 
  • Experience with planning tools and systems for operations orders and mission rehearsals.
